The future of our children is in your hands. Together We Stand, and United We Succeed!
The future of our children is in your hands. Together We Stand, and United We Succeed!
My name is Sharon Van Leer. I am running for South Washington County School Board.
My experience spans over forty years serving students in an educational environment. My experience has equipped me with skills essential for leadership on the school board.
I am running for re-election to bring my unique perspective to the board, and to be a voice for issues representing the best interest of our children.
By supporting my re-election, you allow the board to continue to benefit from my broad educational experience and diverse life experience in District 833.
I know the importance of being responsive and receptive to parents, staff, students and the community.
School board members are trustees for the community that elects them, which makes all of us stakeholders.
We are partners in this endeavor. I want to make certain we provide a quality education for all children.
We must strengthen relationships between all stakeholders, building a community that is empowered, feels welcomed, valued and respected.
We must improve dialogue between the district and the community, collaborating in a meaningful and purposeful manner.
My campaign is not driven by a political agenda. It is rooted in my experience as a professional, parent, grandparent, great-grandparent and foster mom.
I will support unique and dynamic programs that benefit our children. Every child needs access to resources and opportunities that prepare them for a successful future in a global society.
Let’s ensure our educational system remains a positive force in our community’s future.
Your choice at the polls this fall is a statement about the education and values we want for our children.
I have spent 40 years ensuring that culture, equity, inclusion and belonging are a part of our students’ experience. My experience as the Director of Culture & Inclusion at Mitchell Hamline School of Law has provided me with the opportunity to work with students across the country, from various cultural and social economic backgrounds.
Twelve years ago, I ran for School Board because there were no people of color serving on the board. I continue to represent all students and staff in this challenging season.
I know that strengthening our financial standing is important and an area where we need to work closely. Our tax dollars have benefited the education of our children. We will continue to make sound, ethical and fiscal decisions.
I have come to understand the complexities of our district’s budget. I manage my department’s budget at Mitchell Hamline and understand what it means to be accountable to my employer. I want to emphasize the intrinsic knowledge of not only being a board member, but a parent, grandparent and foster parent in this community, when it comes to making tough financial decisions.
Focusing on student wellness is also a priority. I am dedicated to advocating for programs that foster more than just academic achievement. We must provide programs that will support the overall well-being of our students. This includes providing mental health resources and offering a range of extracurricular activities.
I prioritized school safety as a central commitment, so that our children are safe inside and outside of our schools.
Our work has created a stronger bridge for the awareness between health, education, and social services, which promotes student well-being and wellness.
